- BASE — Bielefeld Academic Search Engine
- IDEAS — Boasting its status as 'the largest bibliographic database dedicated to economics and available freely on the Internet,' IDEAS indexes over 2.2 million items, more than 2 million of which can be freely downloaded.
- ERIC — of the Institution of Education Sciences, allows you to search by topics related to education. Links lead to other sites, where you may have to purchase information, but you can search for full-text articles only.
- EconBiz — an excellent resource for economic and business studies. It offers the option of searching all free-access journals or only open-access material.
- NIH — The National Institute of Health's mission is to seek fundamental knowledge about the nature and behavior of living systems and the application of that knowledge to enhance health, lengthen life, and reduce illness and disability.
- PhilPapers — an index of philosophy-related journals, books, open access archives, and personal pages of academics... allows you to browse over 1,000 philosophy journals.
- PLOS — a non-profit organization committed to facilitating openness in academic research... all PLOS content is at the highest possible level of open access.
- CiteSeerX — a computer and information science database
